Tutto il sound di Ravel
RAKEL is a Reykjavík based musician and vocalist from a small town in the North of Iceland called Akureyri. Having performed with various artists throughout the years, such as Axel Flóvent, ZAAR and Salóme Katrín, she’s now debuting her own music. Her first single, Keeping Me Awake, was released in October 2020 “…a dreamy, emotional melange of pop and electronic beats that crescendos into a cinematic masterpiece…” as described in The Reykjavík Grapevine. In January 2021 she released her second single, Our Favourite Line, that charted at #1 in Iceland. RAKEL’s Debut EP “Nothing Ever Changes” was released on May 7th 2021. She was nominated as newcomer of the year and singer of the year in the Icelandic Listeners Awards 2021. “I made the song sitting on a really uncomfortable folding chair in my bedroom in the early spring of 2021, on an electric guitar I had borrowed from a friend. I didn’t have an amplifier in my apartment at the time so I could barely hear what was coming out of the guitar, but something came out, enough to inspire a melody.” “At the time I was in the early stages of a relationship, feeling excited and in love but also not ready to totally let my guard down, so this song was kind of a temporary outlet for those feelings.” “The song is a personal one and naive in a way. I had a hard time sharing it with people because the feelings were all so new and tender and it all felt a bit too vulnerable. Eventually I took it to my good friend and musician Axel Flóvent. I had this idea of making a quiet song but loud at the same time, just like the feelings I was feeling. They were really loud and strong but not ready to be revealed and I wanted to try and mirror that in the soundscape. We ended up placing it in this kind of ‘shoegazy’ world. Then me and Hafsteinn Þráinsson, another talented friend and collaborator, took it from there when it got to the studio, but he plays the guitar and bass on the song.” “The song went from being this quiet little thing into the closest I have come to making a rock song. Collaborating on the split album was the perfect place to experiment with a new sound and let ideas flow freely” on collaborating on the split album “While We Wait” with friends and musicians Salóme Katrín and ZAAR.
